Exploring the World of Dune
Exploring the World of Dune Part Two: Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune: Part One” was an unqualified success, yet the director is eager to keep moving forward with more projects like this one. Currently he’s creating an exciting sequel which adapts Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel and promises even greater action than its predecessor.
At the conclusion of Part One, Paul Atreides (Timothee Chalamet) and Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson) leave Arrakis to join Fremen resistance forces. According to the trailers, Paul soon spots one of these members riding a sandworm; perhaps this moment marks when Part 2 truly begins!
Director Denis Villeneuve
Denis Villeneuve first emerged onto the international scene through crime dramas like Prisoners and action thrillers such as Sicario. However, his success as an innovator of science-fiction/fantasy filmmaking grew after crafting INCENDIES and BLADE RUNNER 2049.
Dune Part Two promises more cinematic awe and beauty from director Denis Villeneuve. Picking up where its predecessor left off, this sequel follows Paul Atreides (Timothee Chalamet) and Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson), as they attempt to escape death by joining Fremen.
After being attacked by Duke Leto Atreides, Paul is forced to seek peace for Arrakis. With Stilgar (Javier Bardem) and Chani (Zendaya), whom appeared in his visions, as allies, Paul must deal with an ongoing holy war across space-time that he saw occur in his visions.
Cast Timothee Chalamet
Timothee Chalamet returns as Paul Atreides in Dune Part Two and, alongside Chani, they reunite to take on Emperor Shaddam IV and House Harkonnen.
Denis Villeneuve’s sequel cast includes Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan and Austin Butler as Feyd-Rautha, Brown Vladimir Harkonnen’s heir. Lea Seydoux will join as Lady Margot – one of many servants working within Sisterhood of the Desert.
The new installment picks up where 2021’s Dune left off, as Paul and Chani attempt to join the Fremen tribe so as to gain their trust. Unfortunately for them, doing so requires riding a sandworm as part of becoming part of this desert people group’s society.
Zendaya
“Euphoria” star Eva Green was only seen briefly in the original Dune adaptation, lasting only seven minutes of 2 1/2-hour adaptation of Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel. However, director Denis Villeneuve promised she’d play an even larger part in Dune 2.
Fans were disappointed with the first film, but Zendaya gave fans confidence at CinemaCon by promising them she will play an even greater role in Dune Part Two and plans on directing.
Legendary Entertainment released the trailer for Dune Part Two this week, starring Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya. Additionally, Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan and Austin Butler as Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen make their first appearances.
Chalamet and Zendaya will appear alongside many A-list actors in this movie, such as Lea Seydoux as Lady Margot and Souheila Yacoub as a Fremen warrior – it remains to be determined exactly how much screen time they will receive.
Florence Pugh
Florence Pugh is a rising actress making waves. With multiple projects scheduled to release this year and working with directors such as Christopher Nolan and Denis Villeneuve, Florence Pugh is already creating waves.
She recently made headlines at the Met Gala with her eye-catching appearance wearing a shaved head, and now is gearing up to star in East of Eden: the film adaptation.
She will appear as a lead in Christopher Nolan’s forthcoming epic Oppenheimer alongside Cillian Murphy and Emily Blunt, as well as being in talks to co-star alongside Andrew Garfield in StudioCanal’s We Live in Time project.
Austin Butler
Austin Butler made his mark as an actor during the 2000s, starting as a background actor before progressing quickly into lead roles. His credits include Nickelodeon and Disney Channel productions such as Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide, Zoey 101, Jonas, iCarly, Drake & Josh Wizards in Waverly Place and Out of Jimmy’s Head.
In Dune Part Two, he takes on the role of Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen – a lethal Harkonnen nephew that sets out to kill Paul Fremen and his Fremen family members. We first got a glimpse at him via quick teasers; now the trailer gives us an even clearer idea of who this murderous antagonist will be.
Javier Bardem
Javier Bardem is an award-winning Spanish actor best known for his roles as Jamon and Jamon’s sexy stud oeuvre propelled him to international acclaim, but it was his performance of Cuban poet Reinaldo Arenas in Before Night Falls that garnered him greater renown.
Bardem will debut as a director with Dune: Part Two and will oversee its main title sequence, an adaptation of Frank Herbert’s original 1965 novel’s opening credits.
Timothee Chalamet will play Paul Atreides, Zendaya will portray Fremen leader Chani, Stellan Skarsgard will portray hulking Baron Harkonnen and Dave Bautista will take part as Rabban among many others in this movie which is scheduled for release later this year.
Stellan Skarsgard
Stellan Skarsgard has proven himself adept at acting in big-budget CGI blockbusters like Marvel Cinematic Universe movies; playing Erik Selvig in four of them as Erik Selvig; yet, his taste for arthouse movies goes deeper still; working alongside Lars von Trier on Breaking the Waves, Dancer in the Dark and Dogville are among his favorites.
Villeneuve wanted Skarsgard to portray Baron Vladimir Harkonnen with an understated menace that is different than Herbert’s original novel; Skarsgard found this approach more appropriate since Harkonnen can appear cartoonishly wicked at times, so Skarsgard preferred taking the character in a less menacing direction while eliminating some distracting aspects like his blister-filled face that were too distracting.
Makeup artist Donald Mowat spent 80 hours transforming Skarsgard, crafting seven prosthetic pieces he glued on his face and spending over 30% of Skarsgard’s set time creating them! But the end results made all that hard work worth while! Mowat assures us the final look was more than worth his while!
Rebecca Ferguson
Rebecca Ferguson has been busy spreading word of Dune Part Two’s release date of November 3 and predicts it will surpass its predecessor in terms of quality. According to Rebecca, everything she has read or seen indicates this outcome.
Rebecca Ferguson is a Swedish actress best known for her roles as Anna Gripenhielm on Nya tider soap opera and Elizabeth Woodville on TV miniseries The White Queen. Additionally, she has made notable film appearances such as Ocean Ave and Drowning Ghost among many others.
After co-starring alongside Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, she has gone on to showcase her range on screen in films like Fallout, Men in Black: International and Frank Herbert’s Dune adaptation (Oscar winner!). No matter whether playing an imprisoned member of Bene Gesserit sect in Dune, an astronaut exploring Mars in Life or romantic leads like The Girl on the Train she always delivers outstanding performances.
Dave Bautista
Dave Bautista is one of the biggest stars in Marvel, but prior to becoming famous as Drax the Destroyer from James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) he made waves as former wrestler Batista.
Due to his success in Marvel Studios, Bautista was invited to join DC’s Justice League; however, he refuses to portray Bane.
But we know he still has many roles available to him, which is why we can’t wait for Knock at the Cabin (2023). This post-apocalyptic thriller follows a family who are taken hostage in a cabin.
Christopher Walken
Christopher Walken will play Emperor Shaddam IV in Dune Part Two, following in the footsteps of last year’s Oscar-nominated science fiction epic.
Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya will star alongside veteran actor Denis Villeneuve’s follow-up, which is based on Frank Herbert’s seminal science-fiction novel. Florence Pugh will star as Princess Irulan – Emperor’s daughter while Austin Butler will portray Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen (presumptive heir of Harkonnen Dynasty).
At nearly 50, Christopher Walken has become one of the most prolific actors on film and in theater, garnering Academy Awards nominations and winning one. These accolades came for 1978’s The Deer Hunter; in 2002’s Catch Me If You Can, Walken received another nod – also earning BAFTA and SAG Awards along the way. https://www.youtube.com/embed/AlgAIS_X5JQ
